Week 8: Who’s Ready for the Playoffs?

As the high school football regular season draws to a close, the power rankings have been updated, revealing which teams are hitting their stride just in time for the playoffs. South Kamloops, Lord Tweedsmuir, and South Delta have all made impressive moves up the ranks, while others have fallen.

South Kamloops secured the eighth spot in AA after a nail-biting finish in overtime against the Okanagan Mission Huskies. Although the game was scoreless for the first two frames, South Kamloops QB Cole Rigler’s touchdown and a game-winning field goal from the defence sealed the win for the home side. The victory puts them in good stead heading into the playoffs.

Lord Tweedsmuir finished sixth, winning a hard-fought game against Kelowna Secondary, despite missing starting quarterback Jack Roberts and several other key players. The backup QB, Chase Thurston, stepped up and played a leading role. The offense is powered by their star RB Jaxon Allen, who leads all RBs in the province in yards per carry with 12.48. Allen would score a touchdown for Lord Tweedsmuir before checking out of the game with a re-aggravated ankle injury. They will now face G.W. Graham on November 3rd, with the winner of that game walking into the playoffs as AAA East Conference Champions.

Meanwhile, South Delta rose to eighth place after a dominant 21-0 victory over the Terry Fox Ravens, closing out their regular season on a high note. South Delta had an up-and-down season but finished strong by picking up two straight wins after dropping two straight following their season opener win against Mt. Boucherie. South Delta has bounced back in a big way, and their final win will give them a much-needed confidence boost heading into the playoffs.

All three teams will now look to build on their success as they head into the playoffs, where the competition will only get tougher. These power rankings have certainly set the stage for an exciting postseason, with the top teams battling it out for the coveted championship title.
